believe it or not, these rings were all made out of clay. i recently learned about precious metal clay, which is a clay made of organic material and particles of recycled silver. you shape it into something, fire it (big pieces require a kiln, but small ones can even be fired on a gas range), the organic stuff burns off, and the silver is forged together into a piece of jewelry or whatever you sculpted. i don't care much about silver, but the idea is really cool--making things out of metal by just modeling as you would with clay. i finally ordered a little piece today, and i am really excited to see how it goes. but what should i make?

ReplyDeleteGood luck! I look forward to your efforts. I tried to work with the PMC a few years ago and couldn't get it to work out.
ReplyDeleteI was sad- seems like people make pretty kewl stuff with it.
Amazing...maybe you'll give us a follow up on how it turns out and where a good place might be to get some?
