blogstravaganza post #5: a weird thing that parents do
i have noticed a phenomenon that when i run into parents with kids about river's age, they will often appear to ignore me and avoid eye contact, while sneakily maneuvering their kids closer to us. then they will direct their child to say "hi" to river, which has never once been successful. i think this is a really funny tactic, considering that if they would just start a conversation with me instead, not only would we avoid this bizarre charade, but also they would be modeling the behavior that they apparently want their kids to learn. i may be paralyzingly shy, but at least i don't do weird stuff like this to my kid.

Oh man do I know this. I love that people do it with kids who are under six months old. I want to tell them how silly they are. :)
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm not the only one! Here I thought it was that I am just too intimidating or something!
ReplyDeleteI've got to be one of the most 'anti-social' with new people, people that I know, but I can start a freaking conversation with a parent and not use my son as some kind of a tool!
