happy spring!

this is what could be called my first successful naturally leavened bread! it is a challah recipe leavened with sourdough starter and eggs (sorry vegans), which rose extremely successfully, maybe even too successfully. we always used to have a bread like this for easter when i was a kid, and i am happy to be making it again, albeit with naturally dyed "equinox" eggs. unfortunately, the eggs didn't all survive the baking process, possibly because the oven was too hot, so i don't have the glorious aerial photo i would prefer. nonetheless, i'm contributing it to the bread baking day blog event.

on a completely unrelated side note and in a somewhat bizarre twist of fate, i learned today that i am one of five or less finalists competing for the job of making a diy fashion blog on about.com! i am really excited about this possible opportunity, so please keep your fingers crossed for me. also in the next few weeks i will be doing a trial run for the job, so i may be somewhat scarce around here, but i'll see what i can do.

on a second even less related note, obama supporters may enjoy the funnyish video on james' blog.

  1. Congratulations on your first sourdough! It's beautiful, I love the naturally-dyed eggs (dyed with what?) Thank you for participating in BreadBakingDay. Good luck with the job!
