Sometimes when I want to post stories about my kids, I think it sounds too much like I'm bragging. Really, I have absolutely zero interest in competitive parenting. When I get excited about the awesome things my kids are doing, it's partly because these things are special to them (and hence, to me).
It's also because kids are pretty amazing in general. I'm regularly blown away by the process of learning unfolding before my eyes, and you'll have to pardon me if the examples that spring most readily to mind tend to come from my own kids.
Anyway. We're members of the Toy Lending Library, so last week during my volunteer shift I picked up a pack of craft punches to try at home, and sure enough, River was pretty happy to be able to punch out stars and stuff. Then, while he was cutting some red hearts, he said, "Mommy, let's cut out a blood person!"
Naturally, my first response was, "What?"
I'm pretty sure, though, that what he meant was a picture, like the ones in his human body book, that shows the anatomy of blood vessels. I was a little daunted by the task, so I talked him into drawing the blood vessels and cutting out some other stuff instead. He drew the blood, glued on the heart and bones, then colored pink over everything to make skin. Okay, maybe I'm bragging a little bit. I will admit, I'm pretty darn charmed by this creepy little blood person.
I love to read about the awesome things other people's kids are doing, too, which is probably a big reason that I do the blog thing in the first place. There are some cool unschooly blogs in the second part of my blogroll, over there ----> check 'em out if you like that kind of thing!
